Blood Pressure, Anxiety and taking Coconut Oil

Do we offer basic medical advice for common ailments?

Sometimes we get questions about medical conditions, such as blood pressure, anxiety, and other things.
The short answer is no. We don’t offer personalised advice about common medical ailments.

Dr Mary Enig, and Sally Fallon Co-authors of Eat Fat Lose Fat

So what do we do?

We point you in the right direction
There is a lot of documented information, from a number of reliable sources which can help you. We have a range of good books for sale which cover the benefit of cooking with good oil. Take Dr Gursche’s book, “Coconut Oil”, for example.

There is also the excellent work of Dr Mary Enig, and Sally Fallon in their book Eat Fat, Lose Fat. It has a lot of background information which will be of benefit to those suffering from common ailments.

Generally speaking, Virgin Coconut Oil is a whole, life giving oil, and taken in small amounts which work up to 3+ tablespoons a day, as your body can cope with it, without going into a “full systems cleansing”, will provide you with some pleasant health surprises. For more information, you’ll need to read through the 5 short lessons in the “Which Oil?” course.

We recommend you buy some books from the Books Aisle, but best of all, read, and reread them!

Take a look now at the books aisle. You’ll be surprised as how many coconut oil questions they’ll asnwer.

Coconut Oil user questions and expert answers May 2012

Creamed Coconut Concentrate

Real coconut oil questions

But they have been edited slightly.

User’s comment 1. The creamed coconut came with a white layer on top that tasted yummy!

Our answer. You’re tasting unfermented oil with minimal processing. It has naturally separated from the meat. It has a short shelf life in that form.

User’s comment 2.  It seems a shame the creamed coconut has to be melted by submerging the bottle in hot water. When you do so, you’re melting and losing the label with info on it after soaking the bottles.

Our answer. I think you’re right. Time we did something about that! Take a photo of the label before you submerge it.

Ancient Wisdom Virgin Coconut Oil
Ancient Wisdom Virgin Coconut Oil is easily absorbed into the skin.

User comment 3. Ancient Wisdom oil tasted quite different, perhaps even a little rancid when taken cold.

Our answer. I can assure you it isn’t rancid. If you try Zenian Fully Fermented you’ll soon find out how strong a fully fermented coconut oil can be! But strong taste is not bad. Even the Zenian Fully Fermented tastes great when you get used to it.

We got a fermented coconut oil sample from another country recently that tastes like soap!

Ancient Wisdom is a grated, then fermented only. It tastes slightly fermented, which can be mistaken for rancid. If you take it by mouth, and by the spoonful, draw it through your teeth, and swish it around a little before swallowing. You’ll have less trouble that way.

If you cook an egg (fry) you won’t notice the difference between fermented and unfermented tastes. If you put it on bread, you may notice. If you bake with it you probably won’t detect much coconut oil smell or taste. Ancient Wisdom Coconut Oil is good like that.

Try it, and see what happens. Everyone is different.

Comment / question 4. I wondered whether I should order another range with the same benefits especially for skin and hair?

All our oil is virgin and organic. So yes you could. BUT. Only two of our oils are fully fermented. The first one is Ancient Wisdom.

I’ve read, and I can’t remember where, I think in Dr Gursche’s book, “Coconut Oil”, or Dr Fife’s book, “Coconut Cures”, that fermented coconut oil goes into the skin more readily than unfermented oil.

Only fermented oil provides the benefits of easier absorption into the blood stream through skin, into hair through the follicles, and into the digestion. Not fermented oil absorbs, but not as easily as fermented. See Dr Wendy Enig, Sally Fallon and Weston Price for more information on that topic.

Comment 5 I’m trying to convince family and friends on the benefits of coconut oil.

Our answer. Keep it up!

The key is your mastery of the product for daily use. No amount of theory will convince some people. If you can learn to cook with creamed coconut concentrate, they are getting coconut oil by stealth! They won’t even know.

Using Ancient Wisdom on your hair before shampooing is a great idea. But make sure you regularly check the drain, or unblock it with EM or something to break down the build up.

Hair Care with Pre-Shampoo Oil Treatment

We often get questions about uses for coconut oil

Hair care is a use for coconut oil.
I came across these two articles about natural hair care, written by a women by the writing name Heather R. She is writing for a national Sunday newspaper, The Standard, in Zimbabwe.

I can’t find the first article in this series. But here are two articles by Heather R, a Black lady in Zimbabwe.

Where is Zimbabwe?

Zimbabwe is just above South Africa, in the cone part of the African continent. Over the years it’s been called Southern Rhodesia, and Rhodesia as well. Coconuts grow along the coast line in the African continent, too.

Anyway, about hair care.
Members of the Smith family have used coconut oil for hair care over the years. There is no doubt it is worthwhile. We discovered the power of coconut oil, originally through Dr Mercola, and Dr Fife.

Have other non-Pacific Ocean cultures traditionally used coconut oil for their hair?

Kerala State of India, again, a southern area of a large continent, runs along the lower coastal area of the Indian continent. There Indians love to use coconut oil for hair care. But a lot of that oil is now RBD. That means it is not virgin, or first press, and it has been treated with high heat, and chemicals to get the most out of the coconut oil. We do not recommend the use of such oil, even for hair care.

Oil is messy! How do you clean oiled things like towels etc?

It is wise to wrap up hair being treated with coconut oil. But what about an oily towel? Who wants the job of fixing that? Well there is a product that does a wonderful job of it, and you can buy it at Countdown / Foodtown, The product is Sodium Carbonate.

Sodium Carbonate loves oily things

Greenwoods (laundry crystals) are a 100% biodegradable product called “Soft and Safe Washing Soda Crystals”. They are made in New Zealand, and created with Sodium Carbonate in water. If you hair is not looking like it’s glorious potential, and you’re intending to have a shower, you might consider vigorously rubbing in some coconut oil. Any of our virgin coconut oil offerings will work fine for the job. Afterwards, add some Greenwoods granules to your wash, to remove the oil.

So in summary, let’s say, the Coconut Oil Shop Team wish you happy hair days!

The book, “The Coconut Oil Miracle”, by Dr Bruce Fife

Here is an excerpt from the book.
Coconut oil has been used throughout Asia and the Pacific for thousands of years as both a food and a medicine.

Even today it holds a highly respected position in the Ayurvedic medicine of India. Only recently has modern medical research confirmed the many health benefits traditionally attributed to this remarkable oil.

Once mistakenly thought to be bad because of its saturated fat content, coconut oil is now known to contain a unique form of saturated fat that actually helps prevent heart disease, stroke, and hardening of the arteries. The saturated fat in coconut oil is unlike the fat found in meat or other vegetable fats. It is identical to a special group of fats found in human breast milk which have been shown to improve digestion, strengthen the immune system, and protect against bacterial, viral, and fungal infections.

These fats, derived from coconut oil, are now routinely used in hospital IV formulations and commercial baby formulas. They’re also used in sports drinks to boost energy and enhance athletic performance.

Commercial Break:
